The Great Olive Oil Misconception

Americans have developed an olive oil habit. Out to dinner recently , I saw a man dipping his white bread in olive oil and then pouring it all over his salad, saying, "Wow! this is so good for me!!"

BUT, Is olive oil the healthiest fat ????
The answer is NO, IT'S NOT.

You might ask, Doesn't it lower cholestrol? Well, only when you substitute olive oil in equivalant amounts for butter or oils that are higher in saturated fat. Olive oil doesn't lower cholestrol; it doesn't raise it as much.

You may be better off with canola oil. A study done during 1999 by heart society found that a Mediterranean diet significantly reduced heart attacks and premature death. Many people attributed this to higher consumption of olive oil. But it was increased consumption of canola oil that accounted for these improvements.

Also, study participants ate more whole grain bread , vegetables, fish and fruits, and less meat. Butter and cream were replaced with margarine made from canola oil, which has more healthy omega-3 fatty acids than olive oil does.

Another study found that olive oil reduced blood flow by 31%. Canola oil and fish oil don't ( you want to increase blood flow to all body parts)

I like the taste of olive oil, and I use it sometimes. It's a healthier fat than many others, but it's not nearly as healthy as canola oil - or fish oil and flaxseed oil, for that matter, which also have lots of omega-3s. And a tablespoon of any oil has 126 calories.

What is Basel-II

Recently a new buzz word is around related to Finance and Banking "BASEL-II". In banks and financial institution, people keep talking about Basel-II, such and such financial institution or bank is Basel-II compliant. What is all about this new word? What is Basel-II. What does this mean. How does it impact the Finance and Banking industry. As its name suggest that its a sequel of BASEL-I, Here is the consolidated information in a nut-shell you need to know.



The first standard, (Basel-I) was published in 1988. Basel-I is commonly known as "Basel Capital Accord"



BASEL I

Basel I was an international accord to set minimum levels of capital for banks, building societies and other deposit taking institutions. It was designed to create a level playing field for lenders from different countries and to ensure that lenders were sufficiently well capitalised to protect depositors and the financial system.




BASEL II (Neede for Financial Security Measurement)
After 11th Sep 2001 disaster, A committee of Governers of Central banks of 10 nations (G10) for providing a framework for finantial regulations, whose headoffice is in Basel, Switzerland have provided a framework recently, named as Basel-II.

Definition

International Convergence of Capital Measurement and Capital Standards: a revised framework a.k.a "Basel-II Framework" -> Offers a new set of standards for estabilishing a minimum capital requirements for banking organizations.


Following are the 3 pillers of Basel-II framework

1. Minimum capital requirement (form Basel Accord) - requires lenders to assess their market and operational risk and provide capital to cover such risk. The simplest is the standardised approach, which provides risk weights for some asset classes and requires the weight on others to be determined by the public credit rating assigned to the particular asset by the rating agencies.
2. Supervisory Review - lenders are required to assess risks to their business. For example -risk caused by interest rate mismatches between assets and liabilities.
3. Market Discipline - requires lenders to publish information on their approach to risk management and is designed to raise standards through greater transparency.

Difference Between BASEL-I and BASEL-II

Basel I required lenders to calculate a minimum level of capital based on a single risk weight for each of a limited number of asset classes, eg, mortgages, consumer lending, corporate loans, exposures to sovereigns. Basel II goes well beyond this, allowing some lenders to use their own risk measurement models to calculate required regulatory capital whilst seeking to ensure that lenders establish a culture with risk management at the heart of the organisation up to the highest managerial level

At the first glance, this mail looks very legitimate. The amount is too good to be greedy. I asked several people over the internet about what to do for this. Thankfully everyone responded that it’s a SCAM and I should not give them my information. I did some search over the internet about “ Lotteria Italia”, and I found that the company “Lotteria Italia” is a true lotto company based in Itali but the sell ticket and give prizes based on that. They don’t pick a winner based on their email address. This was the bottom line I wanted to know. There were times when I was almost willing to share my information to them to get the money. Therefore, I want to let everyone know that there are no free lunches in this world. Just delete such emails and never ever care to give your valuable time on such email.

This is my first blog as a full fledged blogger. Earilier I did some technical and other day-to-day topic writing but now that I started thinking seriously about writing , I am here in front of you.

Well, I am more interested in the topics related to the needs of human life in new age. I will also be covering some technical articles (computer related, based on my personal experience) and some humours. Therefore, please bookmark this page and keep coming here.

Whenever I thought about writing..the first topic always strikes was the needs of life. Though lots of saints and learned people have already mentioned that all one need is - food, cloth and shelter. I don't really disagree with this, but in my openion the requirements have changed over time. Now the most important need in life is safety or you may say safe community in your surroundings. No matter how good you are doing professionally/personally but when you come out of your door, you don't want to carry a fear of returning home safely. The second important thing is a job (or you may say job safety) and last but not the least is a good health.
Now who will provide you these necessity - ofcourse none other than you yourself. We are responsible for whatever going on in our surroundings, though our contribution my be a tiny one but its still its significant. We are the community, its our duty to be aware of whats going on in our surrounding and respond proactively. How many times we see something wrong in our day to day life, but we never care even to give a second look on that. We only care when it happens to us or with our loved ones. Why are we becoming so inert. Its never too late to start anything. Lets start with small - try cleaning a piled dirt in your neighbourhood which is falling in no-men's land i.e. its of nobody but of everybody. Everybody thinks that somebody will clean it and sombody think its everybody's job and finally nobody does it. This gives inner pleasure. Just try once and let me know if it didn't give you happiness.
